At Objective Financial, our sole purpose is providing unbiased financial, tax and estate planning advice

Retirement Planning

Retirement planning involves proactively preparing for and transitioning to retirement. It includes saving for a day when you will no longer work and determining how to maximize the accumulation and decumulation of your assets and pensions.

We provide retirement planning advice that is catered to the needs of our clients. Some people are looking to have a few high-level questions answered. Others are looking for a detailed retirement projection to model out the rest of their life, financially, and to assess different scenarios and perform stress testing.

We can assist in both cases.

About Objective Financial Partners: Providing flat-fee and hourly fee-only financial planning advice to clients worldwide since 2012. Specializing in retirement planning and business financial planning. We are a team of 10 financial advisors, 4 tax specialists, and 1 paralegal, headed by Jason Heath, a prominent author for MoneySense and the Financial Post.

Types of consultation we offer

Some clients work with us once. Others work with us sporadically. Many work with us each year so that we can provide ongoing retirement planning support and accountability. If you have a few questions, we might provide a limited financial consultation. We may request some simple information ahead of time. You might provide a list of questions.

Common questions about retirement planning that we can address

  • When should I start my CPP or OAS?
  • When should I convert my RRSP to a RRIF?
  • Should I unlock my LIRA?
  • Should I withdraw more than the minimum from my RRIF?
  • Which account should I withdraw from first in retirement?

Retirement planning for all ages and stages

We can build a retirement plan that is relevant to you regardless of your age or stage. We can help answer more specific questions with a detailed retirement plan by using financial planning software.

  • How much do you need to save each year?
  • How much do you need to retire?
  • How much can you afford to spend in retirement?
  • What is the best way to draw down your assets when you retire?
  • How can I pay less tax in retirement?

When we build a plan, we start with your current net worth, and then along with you, we make assumptions about your future income, expenses, saving, debt repayment, investment returns, pensions, inheritances, home downsize, and so on.

We literally model out every year for the rest of your life, including stress testing and scenario analysis, to try to help you understand your current financial trajectory – and how best to achieve your long-term financial goals.

Unlike most financial advisors, we are fee-only, advice-only financial planners. We work with clients across Canada and Canadians in other parts of the world by Zoom. We do not sell investments or insurance, so we do not have any conflicts of interest when we give you retirement advice.

Drawing down your investments earlier in retirement, for example, while deferring your government or workplace pensions, might produce a higher retirement income or larger estate value. Traditional financial advisors may be biased to the solution that results in the most investment fees or recommend an insurance policy instead of considering other strategies to maximize your estate that we can explore with you without any inherent bias.

We are retirement experts. Many financial advisors are product experts. When it comes to planning your retirement, you can benefit from working with a retirement specialist instead of a retirement generalist.

If you are saving for retirement, we can help you set goals. If you are approaching retirement, we can evaluate your retirement readiness. If you are already retired, we can help you establish spending, gifting, and investment return targets to make sure your money outlasts you.
